Marathi playback singer, Geeta Mali, who was on her way to Nashik after returning to India from the United States died in an accident on the Mumbai-Agra Highway in Thane district on Thursday.

Geeta, who has sung for a number of Marathi films, was heading for Nashik along with her husband Vijay when their vehicle rammed into a container that was parked alongside the road, according to a report. The incident happened at around 3 am and the couple was immediately rushed to a hospital nearby. While both of them were reportedly severely injured, Geeta died during treatment.

Geeta has also produced albums, besides singing for movies. Just after landing in Mumbai, India after a two-month trip to the US, she had posted a selfie on Facebook, which was apparently her last post.
