Director Mari Selvaraj recently spoke at the press meet of the upcoming film "Parandhu Po," directed by Ram and starring Mirchi Shiva and Anjali. The movie is set to release in theatres on July 4.
During the event, Mari Selvaraj shared personal insights about his relationship with director Ram. He said, "Ram sir always appears serious, but he’s actually humorous in private. We often watched a lot of comedy films together — like 'Michael Madana Kama Rajan' and 'Panchathanthiram' — more than 100 times. When 'Kalavani' was released, he even encouraged me to make such films."
He further revealed that their perspectives changed after the Eelam issue in 2009. "That incident was the turning point," he added. "Only after that did Ram sir start engaging in political discussions. We began discussing politics deeply, and that heavily influenced my filmmaking journey."
"It’s only after those discussions that I decided to focus on political stories. Otherwise, I would have made comedy films like 'Kalavani.' If it weren’t for the Eelam issue, I might have chosen a completely different path," Selvaraj concluded.
This significant transformation in his creative direction highlights how real-world events shaped his political thinking and cinematic vision.
