A bit of less Masala
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 • Telugu Comments

When SS Thaman is around, you can't have out-and-out masala offering.  He always balances the romantic and the massy.  Masala is yet another example.

The choice of singers proves alright and the instrumentation is enjoyable.  On the flip side, there is not much going in terms of hummable tunes.

Ninu Choodani

Artists: Ranjith, Shreya Ghoshal

For a movie titled Masala, Ninu Choodani is an unusual first song.  Shreya Ghoshal's lovable vocals are the song's soul.  The duet has that Thaman imprint all over.  The lyrics are soothing and every romantic will enjoy them.

Kotlallo Okkaday

Artist: Shankar Mahadevan

Thaman must be thanked for bringing to us that Koti-style music with Shankar Mahadevan at full throttle.  The lyrics are absolutely engaging and the massy tone is all over.  The song will surely be a hit on the big screen, and with Venkatesh it can't be anything but a treat to watch.  Thaman does a fine job with the instrumentation.

"Meenakshi Meenakshi"

Artists: Suchith Suresan, MM Manasi

The song is a good rendition and a good musical output.  The lyrics are meaningful and the feel is energetic.  Suchith and Manasi well complement Thaman's touch.

Acharey Acharey

Artists: Ranjith, Bindu

The song starts off on a fresh note but soon proves to be a short-lived experience.  It is quite oldish and the only saving grace are the vocals.  Even Ranjith and Bindu fail to salvage it totally.  The lyrics are just about ok.

"Masala (Remix)"

Artists: Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madhav, Bindu

The remix is a pretty usual one, sans any uniqueness.  As always, it seems to be an excuse for giving the cast and crew members a reason to jive.
