An appeal to Vijay and Suriya to clash to save theater industry

The coronavirus pandemic that has disrupted normal life in all parts of the world has dealt a particularly telling blow on the movie theater industry everywhere. Producers have now started looking at the OTT platforms and are contemplating direct releases online. Experts believe that the virus is here to stay at least for the next two years before a vaccine could come into effect which makes it further bleak for the entertainment industry.

Even though the lockdown is eased out bit by bit the big question that remains is whether theaters and malls where hundreds and even thousands of people gather will be allowed to reopen in the near future. Further the mood of the people too will not lean towards going to theaters and risk themselves and their families.

The popular Vettri Theaters Chennai owner Rakesh Gowthaman has expressed his opinion that for now only two films Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' and Thalapathy Vijay's 'Master' can draw crowds back to the theaters and has appealed to the producers of both films to release on the same date that is Diwali 2020 which falls on November 14th. That festive date is a good six months away but seems like the logical step considering the pandemic situation. We will have to wait and watch if the producers opt for a Vijay-Suriya clash on Diwali 2020.

'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara is produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and has music score by G.V. Prakash Kumar. 'Master' is directed by Lokesh Kanagaran with music by Anirudh and the dream cast of Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi together for the first time.
