Mayakkannadi

After an emotional potboiler in Thavamai Thavamirundhu, Cheran is all set to enthrall film buffs with Mayakkannadi, a rather unusual title. Interestingly, it is a movie that is set in Chennai with Cheran playing a trendy and fashion savvy youth.

After Gopika (Autograph), Padmapriya (Thavamai...), Cheran's choice is still confined to the backwaters of Kerala. Navya Nair has got the nod, getting the break of her career, which her talent warranted.

It was a fine experience to work with Navya in an off-beat film Aadum Koothu, which will have a round in the festival before finding the theatres. Again for Mayakkannadi, we both came together and managed to set things going. The movie has so far come very good and it is a feel-good experience for me to be part of such a quality venture.

Cheran is also sporting a trendy, chic look ---something of a city slicker. Man known to play rustic and rural characters, this witch over is interesting and intriguing.

Though a city-based subject, there is the Cheran's assurance of a clean cinema. 'It is a modern story in a middle class family, something I have never attempted before. A new challenge is how I see it. I have created an image consciously right from my Solla Maranda Kadai days'.

Director-actor Cheran has a penchant for music. When the likes of Cheran and Ilayaraja team up, no wonder, it would be a treat for the music-lovers. 'Once he got to know the full script, Ilayaraja was on the job. Music has always played a big part in my story and this time it will be no different.'

Veteran Panchu Arunachalam's son Srinivasan under his Chellamai Celluloid banner produces Mayakkannadi. Dwaraknath, who canned the Sneha episodes in Autograph, has handled the responsibility of cinematography.

Cheran is keen to continue his good run. He has been giving his heart out to shape the film in the best possible way. Hope Cheran emerges successful this time too.
