Mattewada Ajay Kumar, a Telangana based goldsmith, and sculptor, crafts the most amazing micro-art which has won him a place in the Limca Book of World Records in 2004, 2009 and 2015. Kumar earned his position with masterpieces such as a miniature functioning lock and key with seven levers, a violin that can be played (20 mm long weighing 0.74 mg) and a tiny pair of scissors that he made in just 3 hours (with a length of 11 mm and a weight of 0.18 mg). The micro-artist also creates miniature figurines inside the eye of the needle. He reported: “I learnt goldsmith work and micro-art from my father and have been in this profession since the past 29 years.”

Kumar’s Dandi March sculpture inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday, can only be seen with a microscope. But when seen through the lens, not just the tiny figurines can be seen, his incredible talent is also visible. Speaking about his work, the micro-artist said: “I just make these things out of passion. All I want is for people to see and appreciate them. That’s what brings a smile on my face. It doesn’t matter to me whether they know the name of the artist behind it or not. As long as they see my work and like it.”
