Even though Vijay has never hinted on joining politics or a political party so far, speculations of the actor joining a specific political party have been made by politicians and media outlets time and again.

Director and Naam Tamilar Katchi's co-ordinator recently made a statement that he would gladly welcome Vijay if he made the decision to enter politics. Responding to this, Minister Jayakumar has now stated that even if Vijay joined the DMK, it will not affect the ADMK in any way and that their political party would win the next assembly election as well.

Journalists have raised the question of Vijay joining the former party after he met with DMK president M.K. Stalin at a recent event. Meanwhile, the actor, who is done with his part in his upcoming movie Bigil, is gearing up for its release in Diwali.
