Missing On A Weekend Review

Expectations

It's often said that many times big things come in small packages. One did witness the same in case of crime based thrillers in our Hindi cinema. There have been few big films made by filmmakers like Abbas Mustan, Vijay Anand and others, but mostly it's the small films and film-makers who have managed to make their mark in this niche genre and thus, one does expect to witness the same whenever there is a small, yet, promising thriller on its way.

'Missing On A Weekend' seems to be one of those promising kinds, as it has a powerful actor like Pawan Malhotra and also marks the acting debut of singer Harihran's son, Karan Harihran. But, sadly due to zero publicity, there is not much expectations related to this movie.

Story

'Missing On A Weekend' is a story of police inspector Ali Ansari (Pawan Malhotra), who has been assigned to investigate a murder of a young tourist in the resort of Goa. Ali and his colleague Ajay (Dishank Arora) find Laksh (Karan Harihran) in an unconscious state and believe that he might be able to solve the murder case. But before Ali and Ajay could start their investigation, they come to know that Laksh is going through a temporary memory loss, due to which he does not remember anything related to the whole incident. Thus, Ali starts his investigation right from the scratch leading to something more than a simple murder.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story on papers seems interesting and manages to keep its mild hold in the first half of the film.The cinematography is average.Pawan Malhotra is a fantastic actor and tries hard to do justice to his role but fails due to limited characterization. Karan Harihran has a spark for doing negative roles but needs to sharpen his acting skills. Dishank Arora lends good support.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The screenplay fails to do any justice to the script as it moves on an abrupt and stale mode. The narration between Pawan and Dishank reminds you of the repetitive questioning style from the popular television series C.I.D. There is no connectivity between the evidence and the incidents which takes place. Titillating item songs are inserted in between of intense scenes. The scenes are placed abruptly in order to confuse the audience leading to a predictable and disappointing climax.

Director Abhishek Jawkar brings up an interesting tale but fails miserably to do proper justice to it. Bad writing, tacky editing and weak performances ruins the movie to its worst. Dibendyu Bhattacharya is wasted. All the other newcomers fail to make their mark.

Final 'Glitz'

In short 'Missing On A Weekend', despite of having an interesting plotline, is worth missing for sure due to several negative reasons.
