Modern day 'Shuddh Desi Romance' takes on vintage 'Zanjeer'

In a steady manner, curiosity has built around 'Shuddh Desi Romance' which has seen good, consistent and well planned campaign built around it during last few weeks gone by. As a result of it, this 'controlled budget' film is all set to be yet another profit maker of the year, what with good buzz and vibes surrounding it. Sold more as a film that explores 'live in' relationships instead of trying to make stars out of its three leads, this Yash Raj film should sail through comfortably at the box office.

Of course collections would be better at multiplexes due to it's theme as well as reach. Though the 'desi' title could well be lucrative enough for single screens in small towns as well, the fact remains that Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra are still rising up the ladder of stardom and hence would require a couple of more successes to find a larger audience base. With an average occupancy of 50% expected on it's opening, this Maneesh Sharma directed film should see sustained collections in days to follow since the content looks promising.

On the other hand from core subject matter of 'Zanjeer', there are no doubts whatsoever since the Big B starrer is seen till date. Also, Apoorva Lakhia has done well to present the film in a contemporary avtar and brought in headlines from the current times as well. The film promises to be a good action entertainer though it must be added that if not for the delay in release, there would have been much more sheen to its arrival. The film should do better in theatres where 'Shuddh Desi Romance' won't be making inroads, i.e. mass centres. Though overall the final product would have to be really good to make deeper inroads.
