If national media reports are to be believed, the Popular Front of India (PFI) is going to be banned soon. The Modi government apparently believes that the Islamic outfit was behind some violent incidents on the recent Sri Rama Navami day in three States.

The Union Home Minister seems to be seized of the matter. Earlier, the PFI was accused of fomenting trouble in Karnataka by orchestrating the Hijab row.

Commenting on the reports, columnist Minhaz Merchant said that PFI should have been banned years ago. "It’s a jihadi group that has radicalized Muslims in Kerala. Its student wing CFI led the Hijab agitation in Karnataka," he wrote.

Sanju Verma, the national spokesperson of the BJP said that the National Investigation Agency has got ample evidence to nail PFI. "The UAPA amendment of 2019 set the ball rolling to rein in radicalized elements. Most PFI members are ex-SIMI members. SIMI was banned in 2001. Many BJP-ruled States have recommended a PFI ban," she added.
