Kalaupili S Thanu bags theatrical rights of Mohan Lal's biggie

Ace film Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has bagged the theatrical rights of Malayalam superstar Mohan Lal's Maraikayar: Arabi Kadalin Singam in Tamil Nadu.  The film which was originally made in Malayalam will be dubbed and released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English languages.

Interestingly this film marks Thanu's collaboration with both Mohanlal and Priyadarshan after a long gap of over 2 decades. The trio first collaborated for the film 'Siraichalai' the Tamil dubbed version of the iconic Malayalam film 'Kaalapani' by Priyadarshan in 1996 starring Mohanlal.

The film stars Mohanlal in the title role and has Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Mukesh, Siddique, Nedumudi Venu and Pranav Mohanlal in supporting roles.

The film is based on the true life of Kunjali Marakkar IV,  the naval chieftains of the Zamorin of Calicut who is also the most popular of the Marakkars. Making the exciting news official S Thanu wrote, "I am very proud and delighted to release the historical grandeur #MaraiKayarArabikadalinSingam movie all over Tamilnadu through #VCreations on December 2nd @Mohanlal @priyadarshandir @akarjunofficial @kalyanipriyan @KeerthyOfficial."

The film was originally scheduled for release on 26 March 2020, along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English languages. The release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was then scheduled for theatrical release on 12 August 2021 but was postponed again. Maraikayar will now release in theaters on December 2nd.
