One of the most awaited Malayalam films, Empuraan, is set to release in a few days. It is the sequel to Mohanlal's blockbuster Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. While Lucifer was a huge success, its Telugu remake, Godfather, starring Chiranjeevi, did not perform well because the original film was already released in Telugu.
During Empuraan's Telugu promotions, Mohanlal was asked if he had seen Lucifer's Telugu version. He replied, “I watched Godfather, but they changed the story slightly. Many of my films have been remade, but I don’t think Godfather can have a sequel since certain characters were missing compared to Lucifer.”
One key change in Godfather was the removal of Tovino Thomas' character by director Mohan Raja. He believed it did not add much to the conflict. However, after watching Empuraan's trailer, it seems Tovino will play a crucial role in the story. Mohanlal’s comment may be hinting at this narrative shift.
