Naruto the monkey loses three year selfie case in court

Naruto the macaque monkey probably had no clue that snapping a few selfies using an unattended camera would create such a legal tussle. His toothy grin selfie was captured using photographer David J Slater’s camera which is now being showcased at the Museum of Selfies in California.

A three judge panel of the US Court of Appeals has given the verdict that monkeys cannot own the copyrights thus dismissing PETA’s lawsuit. “We conclude that this monkey—and all animals, since they are not human—lacks statutory standing under the Copyright Act,” the court said.

Well, it’s a no-brainer that the photographer was much happy about the verdict and just go back to his passion of being with the wildlife. But again, sorry monkey.
