In what is predicted by political pundits as a move aimed at merging the MDMK with its parent organization DMK, the MDMK has announced that it would be supporting DMK candidate Marudhu Ganesh during the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls in the city.

As reported earlier, R.K. Nagar is all set to vote on 21st December to elect it new representative in place of J. Jayalalithaa, the former chief-minister who expired under mysterious circumstances exactly a year ago on 05th December, 2016.  DMK has fielded advocate Marudhu Ganesh who has been offered support by the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the CPI, CPI-M and a few other parties.

MDMK’s high-powered committee met at party headquarters ‘Thayakam’ in Egmore, Chennai yesterday.  Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Vaiko accused the ruling BJP at the Centre of attempting to kill the federal structure of the country.  “Tamil Nadu’s river water rights are being taken away while the Govt. of Tamil Nadu remains weak and mute when it comes to addressing important issues relating to the State.

“Tamil Nadu’s linguistic and cultural rights/identities are being questioned by the BJP which attempts to rule the State through its agent (Governor).  We should teach a befitting lesson to both the ruling parties at the Centre (BJP) as well as in the State (AIADMK).  As MDMK is duty-bound to protect and preserve the Dravidian movement, we have decided to support the DMK in R.K. Nagar,” Vaiko said.

He also hinted that this could be the beginning of ‘huge things’ to come in future in respect of the future of MDMK and its new-found relationship with the DMK.
