Why was Ishan Kishan not sent for the Super Over against RCB? Rohit Sharma reveals

Tuesday, September 29, 2020 • Tamil Sport News Comments

After an engrossing clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 10th match of the Indian Premier League, both the teams landed in the Super Over after they scored a total of 201 in their respective 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan played his best ever innings last night as he fell short of just one run in what would have otherwise been one of the most memorable IPL centuries by any player. The batsman was dismissed in the last over following his 99 off 58 knock. It was naturally expected that he would be one of the batsmen playing in the Super Over against Bangalore, but Mumbai Indians' skipper Rohit Sharma had instead decided to send Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya to the field on behalf of the team. When Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore eventually aced the match, Rohit Sharma explained why he held back Ishan Kishan. "He (Kishan) was drained out and was not comfortable. We thought we could send him but he was not feeling fresh. I mean seven runs you need to have luck on your side, we had to get wickets but there was also an unfortunate boundary. There are a lot of positives to take away from this game," Rohit Sharma said.

Mumbai Indians' head coach Mahela Jayawardene further mentioned, "If anyone could see, he (Kishan) was very tired at that moment and we were thinking that we probably need a couple of fresh guys who can go and hit the ball. It is quite easy to say in hindsight this and that, but Polly (Pollard) and Hardik had done the job in the past in those Super Overs, two experienced guys who are capable of doing that. So you take a chance on these calls and it could have gone either way. If we had 10-12 runs anything could have happened." Mumbai Indians will face off against Kings XI Punjab on October 1.
