'Mungaru Male' & 'Duniya' sweep State Awards

The two prominent box office hit films 'Mungaru Male' and 'Duniya' conquered six and five Karnataka state film awards respectively for the year 2006-2007. This is for the first time the people appreciated films bagged so many awards. The Karnataka state film awards were announced on Friday afternoon in Bangalore.

The top honors goes to 'Dhuniya' Vijay and Thara for her performance in 'Cyanide'.

'Mungaru Male' besides being the first best film (the award goes to producer Krishnappa and Gangadhar) has won awards in the category of dialogues (Yogaraj Bhat) music (Mano Murthy), cinematography (Krishna) lyrics (Jayanth Kaikini) and sound recording (Thukaram).

The second best film 'Duniya' (Producer T.P.Siddaraju) has clinched the awards in the category of best actor (Vijay), supporting actor (Rangayana Raghu), Screenplay (Soori) and Playback singing (M.D.Pallavi for the song Nodayya Kwate Lingave….).

The third best film goes to 'Cyanide' and for this film Thara has won the best actress award.

Bengalooru Company's 'Kada Beladingalu' has bagged two awards in the category of best socially relevant film and best story award for the same film goes to Janaki (H.Girish Rao of Kannada Prabha newspaper)

'Kallarali Hoovagi' of T.S.Nagabharana has to be content with three awards in the department of art direction (Vittal), editing (Basavaraj Urs) and costumes (Nagini Bharana and Roshni).

Veteran south Indian films director Singeetham Srinivas Rao who directed high quality films (Bagyadha Lakshmi Baramma, Pushpaka Vimana, Haalu Jenu etc) in Kannada has been given the Puttanna Kanagal award. Actress M.N.Lakshmi Devi has won the Dr.Rajkumar award – these two awards carry award money of Rs.2 lakhs and citation. Dwarakish a multifaceted personality has been bestowed with life time achievement award.

The other category awards are – Murali for dubbing (Soundarya), Deepa for female dubbing artist (Arasu), Male playback singer – Hemanth for Janapada (Song Thanuvinolaganudhinaviddu), Master Revanth for best child actor in 'Daatu', best regional film 'Badhi' (Tulu language). The special awards are given to 'Daatu' and dumb and deaf actor Dhruv for his role in 'Snehanjali' Kannada film.

The state awards committee headed by Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar viewed 37 Kannada films in the fray in which nine films have not been released for public viewing so far.

The state awards will be distributed in the month of August in Bangalore.

Despite of four children films out of the 37 films in the fray the state award committee has not instituted any award for the best female child role and best children film category this year. Producer of 'Mannina Makkalu' has raised strong objection to this indifferent attitude of the state awards committee. With no encouragement on the one side the children films made in Karnataka are not getting the proper theatres too is the pent up frustration of Ganesh.
