One of the harshest tragedies to have shocked Tamil Nadu is the fire accident at a private school in Kumbakonam, that claimed the precious lives of 94 children in the year 2004. Various NGOs and Child rights groups and kind individuals offered financial help for the families of victims and also for the treatment of the children injured in the accident.

Even the Nadigar Sangam generated funds from actors from the aforementioned cause. Reportedly actor Kamal Haasan donated Rs.12 lakh for the cause while Vijay and Suriya gave Rs.5 lakhs each. Superstar Rajinikanth gave Rs.2 lakhs while Vivekh gave Rs.1 lakh out of the total sum of Rs.60 lakh generated as contribution one behalf of the Nadigar Sangam.

In a shocking revelation, Inbaraj the convener of a group working for the welfare of the parents who lost their kids in the Kumbakonam tragedy has alleged that the funds generated from actors by Nadigar Sangam is yet to reach the families of victims even after 11 years have passed after the tragedy.

Inbaraj has requested the new body of Nadigar Sangam administrators lead by the President Nasser and General Secretary Vishal to take steps to ensure that the benevolent donation of the stars reaches the rightful people. He has also urged the new office-bearers to probe if the money was misappropriated and take punitive action on those behind the scam.
