Some speakers at the audio launch of Namitha starrer ‘Azhagana Ponnuthan’ in Chennai Friday took an apparent dig at the actress for not attending the event.

Tamil Film Producers Council secretary Sivasakthi Pandian said in his address that stringent action should be taken against actresses who failed to take part in events related to the films they are acting in.

“In Bollywood, actresses attend the promotional events of their movies without fail. But their counterparts in Kollywood are concentrating on getting more remuneration alone,” he said.

Supporting his stand, Film Employees Federation of South India chief V C Guhanathan said necessary support would be provided to the Producers Council in this regard.

Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, who later occupied the podium, said there was nothing wrong in the remarks made by Pandian. He however said issues should not be discussed at a public function.

Echoing him, Kushboo said problems should be solved through dialogues. She said she knew the problems faced by producers since she too was a producer.

‘Azhagana Ponnuthan’ is directed by Thiru and produced by K Kesavan for K Cinema. Newcomer Karthik is acting opposite Namitha. The film’s music is scored by Sundar C Babu of Chithiram Pesuthadi, Anjathey and Naadodigal fame.

It may be recalled that filmmaker Perarasu came down heavily on actresses a few days back at the audio launch of ‘Aadhinarayana’ for the same reason.
