Fans of movie stars love them beyond anything and the market of a hero or heroine depends on this loyal following. While it's all ok when fans celebrate their stars or even worship them some take it too far causing heartbreak to their families and indirectly to the stars themselves.

Dhanush's 2019 movie 'Asuran' directed by Vetrimaaran and produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu won him the National Award for Best Actor and several others. The film has been remade in Telugu as 'Narappa' with Victory Venkatesh and Priya Mani in the lead roles. The film was scheduled to release on 14 May 2021but was postponed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. In late June 2021, it was reported that the film will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video.

Venkatesh's fans did not take this lightly and have been expressing their displeasure regarding the direct OTT release and are demanding the producer Suresh Babu to wait till theaters reopen.

One fangirl Sunita from Renigunta took it too far by attempting suicide to show her protest against the OTT release of 'Narappa'. Videos of her trying to slash her wrist have gone viral on the internet but she is said to be out of danger. Social activists are advising fans to refrain from such behaviour and endangering themselves all for a film.
