23-year-old Nirbhaya, who was gang-raped and murdered on December 16, 2012, finally saw justice yesterday as a Delhi court issued a death warrant for the four convicts in the case.

People have been expressing their views on the long-awaited verdict, and while some of them have welcomed it, a number of people have mentioned that the death penalty might not be the ultimate solution in rape cases. One among them was Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta, who was the face of the #MeToo movement that began last year. She reportedly stated, "The court ordered death sentence, Nirbhaya got justice, all this is good. But how many people will you hang? I am trying to look for a solution. Death is never a solution. I will welcome the day when crimes like rape stop."

The victim, who was named Nirbhaya (fearless), was brutally raped, tortured with an iron rod, and murdered on a moving bus as she was returning home from south Delhi with a friend after watching a movie on the night of December 16, 2012. The vicious crime, that shook the nation and is still etched on people's minds, saw massive protests from across the entire country.
