No new Tamil films to hit screens from 01st March onwards, says Producers’ Council

A statement issued by the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) has stated categorically that no new Tamil films would be taken up for distribution and release across the State from 01st March onwards.

Of late, all new films are converted into digital mode before they are released in theatres, thus forcing the producers to cough up extra amount for the same.  Producers have been complaining for the past many months that the process of ‘digitization’ of films is costing them dear and demanded action against this process to regularize it.

Talks held in this regard haven’t yielded the desired results, forcing the Council to declare that it won’t be taking up new films for release and distribution.  “In order to register our protest against inaction in regularizing the cost of digitization of new films, film industries of Kollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood and Sandalwood (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries respectively) have decided not to take up new films for release in theatres from 01st March onwards.

“An alternative mode to digitizing films should also be explored soon. A huge question mark hangs over he future of producers and we have been pushed to take a tough stance on this issue.  Hence, a decision has been taken unanimously not to release new films 01st March onwards,” the statement said.
