Norovirus is the latest virus to be in the news cycle. Since the coronavirus pandemic began in late 2019, any news about a new or old virus has resulted in anxiety. So, many Indians have started googling about Norovirus and whether we should worry about it.

Norovirus is a viral illness. Experts say that acute gastroenteritis is its cause.i Intestinal inflammation and malnutrition are also associated factors. Diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches and body ache are its symptoms.

Two children in Kerala have tested positive for the virus. Social media rumours are abuzz with the term 'highly contagious' in relation to Norovirus. This is causing panic in some but there is no need to worry.

Kerala's Health Minister Veena George has stated that the two children who have tested positive are stable.

Maintaining hygiene is key to preventing the spread of the virus. And if you are healthy with a strong immune system, chances are that you won't feel the pinch even if you catch it. Mostly, children and the elderly are susceptible. In summation, it is not a serious issue right now. There is no need to believe that the situation will go out of control. A few parts of one or two States might see an outbreak of such contagious infections. They don't spread to other parts of the country.

That said, authorities have been put on alert in Kerala.
