Director Ramu Chellappa, who made his debut with the film ‘Engitta Modhathey’ starring Natty, has now directed the web series ‘Om Kaali Jai Kaali.’ This series, featuring Vimal in the lead role, will be released on Jio Hotstar on the 28th.

Speaking about the web series, Ramu Chellappa clarified that despite its spiritual-sounding title, it is not a religious story. The series is set against the backdrop of the Kulasekarapattinam Dussehra festival, where groups take a long period of spiritual vows before participating in rituals. Vimal plays a member of one such group who faces unexpected conflicts and challenges.

On casting Vimal, he explained that web series take longer to shoot than films, requiring actors who are committed for extended durations. Vimal was ready for this challenge and was eager to portray a unique role.

The story unfolds in the fictional village of Vanadesam in Tirunelveli. Vimal’s character works at a lamp-making workshop, while the heroine, Bhavani, runs a mic rental service. The plot includes themes of love, village traditions, and revenge. The antagonist hails from Nagercoil, and the story authentically incorporates local dialects from Tirunelveli and Nagercoil.

Renowned actress Seema Biswas plays a crucial role, offering a character with both positive and negative shades. The series also features actors like Manikandan Achari, Govind Padmasoorya, Pugazh, Kanja Karuppu, Pawan, Divya Duraisamy, Kumaravel, GM Kumar, and VJ Maheswari.

Regarding the gap after ‘Engitta Modhathey,’ the director mentioned being occupied with projects like ‘Vilangu’ web series and the film ‘Taanakkaran,’ before finally taking up this web series.
