Renu Mishra, a 59-year-old woman who is a victim of acute bronchitis, travelled over 330 km in order to cast her vote. Mishra, a headmistress at Khajuria middle school in Dumka, survives on continuous oxygen support. She was admitted to a hospital on January 23rd due to her respiratory problems.

She requested for her journey from Kolkata to be arranged in order to cast her vote under the Dumka parliamentary constituency, Jharkhand. Dumka deputy commissioner Mukesh Kumar said: “We received her application around May 12 and were influenced to see her commitment. So we arranged for all the medical facilities she required."

"As long as I am alive, I will be using my democratic right to contribute towards nation-building," said Mishra. Her determination is truly inspiring. If an individual on continuous oxygen support can arrange for a 330 km journey to cast her vote, many of us who may have given excuses not to vote should possibly rethink our stance.
