In the Pahalgam region of Kashmir, a tragic terrorist attack resulted in the death of 26 tourists. In retaliation, the Indian Army launched strikes on terrorist camps located near the Pakistan border. This military operation was named Operation Sindhoor.
Following this, more than 30 individuals from the Hindi film industry, including producers, directors, and actors, reportedly applied to use "Operation Sindhoor" as a film title. Among them, director Uttam Maheshwari announced a new film under the same title on social media and even released a movie poster.
The film was said to be produced by Nikki Vicky Bhagnani Films and The Content Engineer. However, soon after the poster release, the public reacted strongly against it, accusing the filmmaker of trying to profit from a national tragedy without considering public sentiment.
Facing the backlash, Uttam Maheshwari issued a public apology. He stated, "I apologize for releasing the poster of 'Operation Sindhoor'. My intention was never to hurt anyone’s emotions. As a director, I was deeply moved by the bravery and sacrifice of our Indian soldiers. I wanted to honor their courage through this film, and it was not an attempt to seek fame or money.”
The issue sparked a debate on the sensitivity required when portraying real-life national tragedies in films.
