Owaisi says CAB has betrayed 'values'

Asaduddin Owaisi, who tore apart a copy of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha on Monday, has expressed disappointment over the Parliament negating the amendments he had proposed to the CAB Bill. The amendments, he said, would have allowed anyone who has fled their country owing to a well-founded fear of persecution to reside in India (regardless of their religion or home country).

After the Bill was passed in Lok Sabha, Owaisi took to Twitter and said, At the stroke of the midnight hour, while the world slept, India’s ideals of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice were betrayed. I fought hard against it & I promise every Indian that this fight isn’t over. Don’t let hopelessness come near you. Be defiant, be strong.

The Bill will now be presented in the Rajya Sabha and will become a law after the President of India gives his assent.
