Ahead of the release of 'Oxygen' on Nov 30, AM Jyothi Krishna in this interview talks about the film, the underlying message, the delay, and more.

Are you nervous ahead of the film's release?

Although the movie has come out really well, I am tensed as the release date approaches. It is definitely going to be a hit. I can't tell you how much a big it's going to be, but it will definitely be one. The film is close to the Telugu nativity and has commercial elements.

How was it working with Gopichand?

I wanted to do 'Oxygen' with a big name. That's why I approached Gopichand. I felt that only he can do full justice to the film and his role. I feel that, after this film, his image is going to undergo a change. While so far he has been mainly into action movies, in 'Oxygen', you will see him in a performance-oriented role. He has shown so many variations.

Tell us about other important members of the cast, like Jagapathi Babu and Sarathkumar.

Overall, 15 well-known artists will be seen in the movie. With the cooperation of Jagapathi Babu garu and Sarathkumar garu, we could complete the film on time. Since I have always been exposed to the film-making environment, it was rather easier to gel with the cast and crew.

Why has there been so much of delay in releasing the movie?

While we completed the production works at least eight months back, the CG work took a long time to be wrapped up. The delay let me revisit the film by trimming it up accordingly.

Anu Emmanuel has said that the film delivers a social message. What is it?

I can't reveal it. Suffice it to say that you will think about your country at least once while watching 'Oxygen'.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's tunes seem to be a highlight. Tell us about that.

I can't forget the cooperation he has given. He has given six beautiful tunes. Since we had the scope only for 4 songs, the other 2 have been chopped off in the movie. Since Yuvan has been busy with his father's concerts, he couldn't give the BGM. So, the RR has been done by Chinni.

What are your upcoming movies?

All my focus is on direction. My father's (AM Ratnam) business activities are my burden now. So, I will also be involved with the films that are going to come up under our banner. I am waiting for the release of 'Oxygen' as of now. A new announcement will be made after this film arrives.
