Director Maari Selvaraj's debut movie 'Pariyerum Perumal' produced by Pa. Ranjith and starring Kathir and Kayal Anandhi was critically acclaimed. Thangarasu a street play actor portrayed Kathir's effeminate father in the film and his performance touched the audiences.

Thangarasu who lives in Tirunelveli has lost his house in the recent floods in the district and he is said to be suffering in poverty without proper food. It is said that he is surviving on millet porridge alone which his neighbours give him from time to time.
