Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in the parliament on Wednesday the formation of a trust meant for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya, as ordered by the Supreme Court.

PM Modi stated in the Lok Sabha earlier today, "I am pleased to announce that a significant decision has been taken to follow the directives of the Supreme Court. As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the cabinet has prepared a detailed plan for the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. My government has decided to set up a trust called Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha kshetra, which will take decisions independently on the construction of a Ram temple and related issues."

In its historic judgment on November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court had paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a trust at the disputed site at Ayodhya, and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. Disputed by both Hindus and Muslims, the plot was awarded to the Ram Lalla, a petitioner in the case.
