The police have arrested a man who tailed the victim Alimuddin Ansari, a meat trader, and kept the key accused in the case informed of the victim's location.

Raj Kumar of Ramgrah in Jharkhand was asked by the main accused to follow Ansari; he said that he hit the meat trader twice before the surrounding mob took over.

Eleven people have been arrested in the eight days since the lynching, including including the BJP's district media in-charge and the main accused, Deepak Mishra and Chhotu Verma, both of whom belong to the local gau raksha samiti.

Lab tests on some meat samples recovered from Ansari's van were beef, police said. Officers also said that Ansari had a criminal record for carrying prohibited meat.
