Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ has taken the nation by storm with BJP leaders severely condemning the film for its GST references and asking the said scenes to be chopped off. However, the film saw support in numerous celebrities and politicians including Rahul Gandhi who backed Atlee and Co.

In a new development, a lawyer in Madurai’s Anna Nagar area has filed a complaint against the actor for hurting religious sentiments. A scene in ‘Mersal’ shows the star saying “We don’t need to build temples, we need to build hospitals.” The complainant Muthukumar  claimed that the dialogues hurt Hindu sentiments.
