Politician becomes ruffian for ‘Yogi’

Monday, May 4, 2009 • Tamil Comments

Director Ameer is pulling off a coup of sorts for his first film as hero, 'Yogi'. The film is being directed by Subramaniam Siva, who has earlier directed 'Thiurda Thirudi'.

The film, which has been in the making for over a year, has Ameer in the lead, pairing up with Madhumitha for the film. The movie is said to be the story of ‘Yogi’, a local slum dweller, and his friends. Madhumitha is said to be playing a young mother for this flick.

Trying to keep the film as realistic as possible, the director and actor have insisted on keeping the characters as real as possible. And for a scene that demanded a local ruffian and politician, the crew has zeroed in on a real-life politician to play the part.

Gazzali was approached to play the role but he is said to have refused the offer, saying he was not interested in politics. He was, however, appraised on the complete role and the politician is then said to have wholeheartedly agreed to act in the movie.

“I am a politician both on and off the screen,” says Gazzali, gladly.
