Pooja Batra shares her Hollywood work experience

Pooja Batra was a well known name in Hindi film industry in the 90s after which she decided to move to USA to try her hand in Hollywood. Soon she learnt that transition from one industry to another isn't smooth as she struggled to get work there. Recently, Pooja talked about what it's like to work in Hollywood and how was it different for her than Bollywood.

She said, I had to begin from scratch when I relocated to the US years ago. I had no contacts, no launchpad or any references to land projects. I feel it is tougher working in Hollywood because they really focus on your craft. If you are not talented, you don’t get a chance. Secondly, you need an American accent, too. In India, I didn't have to struggle a lot since I was already a Miss India pageant winner. I could smoothly transition into films. In the US, I was stressed about earning money and getting good projects.”

Talking about the poor representation of women in 90s movies, Pooja said, “In the 90s, Hindi films didn’t really have quality roles for women, now that's changed. Most filmmakers back then failed to realise that there are different age brackets and showbiz was not just for teenagers. Women are not supposed to just run around trees. In fact, as you grow older, you are able to emote better because you’ve gone through varied experiences in life. Today, filmmakers have substantial roles for women, which is a welcome sign.”
