Hip Hop Aadhi has expressed pride in creating a new documentary titled "Porunai", which highlights important archaeological research in Tamil Nadu. Known for his multifaceted talents as a music composer, actor, and singer, Aadhi had earlier released a documentary series named “Tamizhi” in 2019, exploring the evolution of the Tamil script. Following its success, he initiated the making of "Porunai" focusing on Tamil archaeological discoveries.
Speaking about the project, Aadhi shared that after completing “Tamizhi” in 2019, his team decided to produce a documentary on Tamil archaeology. In 2021, when the Tamil Nadu government began new archaeological explorations, Aadhi’s team started filming these discoveries with official permission, based on predictions that the findings would be groundbreaking — which indeed came true.
He highlighted a major historical revelation announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin: the earliest iron-age culture may have originated not in Turkey, as previously thought, but in Tamil Nadu. This discovery has shifted global attention towards the region and is considered of immense historical importance.
Aadhi emphasized that this is the first full-scale documentary to capture an entire archaeological process in India. The film, compiled from hundreds of hours of footage over four years, has been compressed to present key findings and will be screened at international film festivals before being made freely available to the global Tamil community, just like Tamizhi.
He concluded by saying that they are committed to making “Porunai” a public asset, showcasing Tamil history and archaeology to the world.
