'Premalu 2' Shelved: Producer Dileesh Pothan Confirms Sequel Put on Hold

Following the massive success of the film “Premalu”, a sequel titled “Premalu 2” was officially announced. The team initially planned to begin shooting in June and aimed for a theatrical release in December. However, with no further updates or official statements, filming was never started.
Now, it has been confirmed that "Premalu 2" has been shelved. In a recent interview, producer and co-creator Dileesh Pothan revealed that work on the sequel has been put on hold. He did not specify when or if the project will resume, leaving fans surprised and disappointed.
The original “Premalu” was directed by Girish A.D. and released in cinemas on February 9, 2023. It starred Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju, with music composed by Vishnu Vijay. Actors Mathew Thomas and Shyam Pushkaran had special appearances. The movie was produced by Fahadh Faasil, Shyam Pushkaran, and Dileesh Pothan.
The film received excellent reviews and was later dubbed into Tamil and Telugu. Despite being made on a modest budget of under ₹10 crore, "Premalu" grossed an impressive ₹130 crore worldwide. It is currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
