A Premier League football player has been arrested by the police on suspicion of child sexual abuse offences after his house was raided recently. The player's name has not been disclosed due to legal reasons.

Confirming the arrest of the footballer, the Greater Manchester Police reportedly said, "Officers arrested a man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further enquiries." The accused man's football club Everton FC also confirmed in a statement that the player has been suspended.

Their release read, "Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation. The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time."
