Aarariro- Single Review

Composer: Premgi Amaren
Singer: Vaikom Vijayalakshmi
Lyricist: Aishwarya M

A lullaby for the soul

We’re so glad that DisneyPlus Hotstar decided to drop Premgi Amaren’s ‘Aarariro’ track today. A few seconds into the song and you’ll begin to wonder if this was the Premgi Amaren you know from his usually comic movie outings. Premgi is, for the lack of a better word, is a much more refined and polished artist when it comes to composing. That’s not a surprise given the roles we see him perform on screen.

But ‘Aarario’ is absolutely a level up for the Premgi the musician. The song, at its totality, is devoid of any excessive ornamentation. Being a soul-stirring song, we’d expect to see such elements like stretched out violin portions, dramatic undertones and whatnot. But Aarariro is subtle, and easily comes out powerful enough.

One reason the song makes you stop whatever you’re doing and sit down is Vaikom Vijayalakshmi’s piercing vocals. With a clean accompaniment from piano in the prelude and a veena interception, her vocals cut through with poise and precision.

With clear diction and tonality, Aishwarya’s lines are poignantly reflective of a mother’s emotions. And the fine balance she has conjured with her metaphors and simple words only makes listening to the track an ‘experience’.

Premgi sure has what it takes to stir your soul.
