Pressure on Mahesh Babu, others to speak up on burning issue

After Rihanne, the international pop singer, recently tweeted out in support of the rich farmers of Punjab, several Netizens are exerting pressure on the likes of Mahesh Babu to do their bit at a time when the farmers' protests are hogging international headlines. The summary of the Netizens' rant is that these stars have capitalized on issues that afflict the farmers in movies like 'Maharshi'. Therefore, they have to now prove their bona fides in real life.

To be sure, this is a minuscule section that is seeking statements from Tollywood superstars. Whatever pressure is there, it is coming from a section of the population that doesn't realize that there is no protest going on in the Telugu States. It's funny that Mahesh Babu and other big stars are expected to speak about an issue that affects the well-off farmers of two North Indian States and nothing more. When was the last time Punjab's stars spoke about Amaravati or Polavaram or something that is specific to the Telugu States?

Some of the biggest superstars of India, like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Akshay Kumar, have backed the government's efforts in reaching an amicable solution. If there is anything that the likes of Prabhas, Jr NTR, Mahesh must do, it is taking this line rather than projecting the government as insensitive. This comes at the expense of a few misguided Netizens calling them spiness. But who cares?
