Prime Video, one of India’s most beloved streaming platforms, has dropped the much-awaited trailer for its second Telugu Original film, Uppu Kappurambu. A sharp, satirical comedy set in a fictional South Indian village, the film tackles a rather unusual crisis — there’s no space left to bury the dead.
Produced by Radhika Lavu under the Ellanar Films banner, Uppu Kappurambu is directed by Ani I.V. Sasi and penned by writer Vasanth Maringanti. The film features an impressive cast led by Suhas and National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh, alongside veteran actors Babu Mohan, Shatru, and Talluri Rameshwari in pivotal roles.
Set in the early 1990s in the quaint village of Chitti Jayapuram, the story revolves around the bizarre situation of overcrowded graveyards. When Apoorva (played by Keerthy Suresh), a young and idealistic woman, is appointed as the village head, she faces resistance from the community — especially because of her gender. Determined to bring order to the chaos, she teams up with the eccentric graveyard caretaker Chinna (played by Suhas), whose offbeat ideas only stir up more confusion and drama.
The trailer offers a delightful mix of satire and emotion, teasing scenes of a hilarious lucky draw to win grave plots, cultural quirks, and moments of heartfelt introspection — all wrapped in a light-hearted, rural backdrop.
Sharing her excitement, Keerthy Suresh said, “What really drew me to Uppu Kappurambu was its unique blend of humour and soul. Apoorva is not your usual village leader — she’s determined, idealistic, and sometimes unsure. But that’s what made playing her so fulfilling. The story is rooted in our traditions, but it raises important questions through comedy. I can’t wait for the audience to meet her and discover the world of this film.”
Suhas, speaking about his character, added, “Chinna is unlike any role I’ve taken on before. He’s caught in the middle of this absurd situation and tries to solve it in his own oddball way. The trailer gives just a glimpse of what’s in store — the film is packed with humour, emotion, and unexpected twists. And the best part? It never feels like it’s lecturing the audience. I’m thrilled for people across the globe to watch it on Prime Video.”
Uppu Kappurambu is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on July 4, and will be available to audiences in over 240 countries and territories. The film will stream in Telugu, with dubs in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, along with subtitles in 12 languages, including English.
This unique, culturally rich satire promises a hearty laugh, plenty of heart, and a fresh take on rural life — all set against the backdrop of a very unusual village dilemma.
