Thamarai Kulam in Ambattur was found to be filled with hundreds of dead fish floating in the water. The Corporation-owned pond, where the fish began to be found since Monday, was cleaned by workers. The number of sea creatures increased on Tuesday in the 2,800sqm water body. Officers suggested that the death of the fish may be due to the water scarcity that has hit every part of the city.

Residents suggested that the sewage which has been flowing into the ponds from the houses in the locality may be the cause of the widespread death. No corrective measures have been taken yet according to them. This is an issue that needs to be taken seriously. First of all, it has already killed hundreds of organisms. Secondly, it is important to understand that the risk is very much linked to humans as well through the food chain.
