When we won the World Cup, we didn’t get money, we got respect, Kapil Dev on box office failure of 83

Filmmaker Kabir Khan's cricket film '83' had the potential to be a huge blockbuster but it's box office collection was severely affected by the lockdowns and curfews imposed in several parts of the country. Despite that, this Ranveer Singh starrer has managed to cross the 100 crore mark domestically and is about to cross the 200 crore mark internationally.

While Kabir has already spoken about how his film is a victim of third wave, in a recent chat with a news outlet, he shared a piece of advice that Kapil Dev gave him about the success.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Kabir said, "Kapil sir, on the fourth day, when Delhi shut down, and it was like, let’s fight back, he said, ‘Kabir, you’ve already got your World Cup. This film that you’ve made is your World Cup. When we won the World Cup, we didn’t get money, we got respect, and it is because of that respect you made this film on us.'”

Kabir then recalled how Kapil Dev urged him to take his mind off the financial aspect and look at the positivity that '83' has garnered.
