Director Ponram recently shared insights about his film Rajini Murugan, which is set for a re-release on March 14 after nine years. The film, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Soori, was well received for its comedy and engaging narrative.
Ponram recalled that he initially wrote the story while working as an assistant director under Rajesh. Due to circumstances, he worked on Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam first. He emphasized that though the film's name features Rajini, it was not intended to mimic but rather to honor Rajini's unique style. He expressed his deep admiration for Rajinikanth and mentioned that Padikkadavan was the first movie he watched in a theater.
He shared a memorable moment when Rajini praised him for the film’s comedy timing, though the appreciation came three years after its release. Talking about Keerthy Suresh, Ponram refuted claims that she mimicked Vijay, clarifying that her mannerisms were natural. He appreciated her talent and dedication, noting that she dubbed in her own voice for Rajini Murugan, which eventually led to a National Award for Mahanati.
Regarding Sivakarthikeyan and Soori, Ponram expressed happiness over their growth. He recalled offering Rajini Murugan to multiple actors but only Sivakarthikeyan believed in it. He also praised Soori’s dedication, particularly in films like Viduthalai. On Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam 2, he mentioned that while he wishes to make it, Sivakarthikeyan’s current serious roles make it uncertain.
Lastly, Ponram highlighted the lack of interest in comedy scripts from actors today and wished for a return of family-friendly comedy films.
