Rajini throws weight behind a noble cause

Rajinikanth may not be as pro-active as an Aamir Khan in spreading social awareness but he does throw his weight behind noble causes on occasions. If it was an appeal to the public to ensure that the children are taken to polio booths, two decades back, it is Cystinosis now, that Rajini is lending his support to eradicate it.

Cystinosis, a genetic disorder caused by the excess accumulation of amino acid cystine, thereby leading to formation of cell-damaging crystals, is a rare disease affecting (especially) children born out of consanguineous marriages.

Rajini, who attended the event organised by the Indian Chapter of Cystinosis yesterday in Chennai, posed with six children affected with the disorder.
