Breaking! Vairamuthu wants Ilayaraja to be honored

One of Tamil cinema's golden eras is when the Ilayaraja-Vairamuthu combo ruled the musical space churning out the most memorable film songs. The two close friends however split after Bharathiraja's 'Mudhal Mariyadhai' and vowed never to work with each other. The fallout of the legends made Tamil film music poorer and many fans from that era still hope for a reunion.
The reason for the breakup of the combo is still a mystery and Ilayaraja has refused to even speak about Vairamuthu while the latter has also said in many interviews that there is no chance of them working together again.
Vairamuthu today took to Twitter to wish his close friend Superstar Rajinikanth on receiving the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award. He then brought to the notice of the central government that other deserving legends for the award in Tamil cinema are Kamal Haasan, Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja. Vairamuthu asking for Ilayaraja to be honored has caused a sensation in Kollywood circles.
