Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has revealed the reason why a film starring both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan didn’t materialize. Before his blockbuster film ‘Vikram’, he had plans to direct a movie featuring both iconic stars.
In a recent interview, Lokesh shared, “I tried very hard to bring Rajini sir and Kamal sir together for a film, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it didn’t happen. We had gone as far as signing the agreement. After I narrated the story, both stars had a conversation over the phone right in front of me.”
He further added, “It was planned that Kamal sir would produce, I would direct, and Rajini sir would act. They had already shown interest in doing a film together earlier. I still have the story ready — it's about two ageing gangsters. The market back then was very different from what it is now.”
Lokesh also noted, “Back then, films like ‘Jailer’ and ‘Vikram’ had not been released. If this film happens now, the commercial expectations would be huge. Considering those factors, it would be a tough project to make at this point.”
