Rajni's Chandramukhi takes off

Who's who of Tamil film personality gathered at thespian Sivaji Ganesan's residence Saturday morning.

The occasion was the muhurat of Rajnikanth starrer Chandramukhi. Prabhu and Ramkumar are producing the movie for Sivaji Productions to commemorate their Golden Jubilee year.

But unlike the earlier ventures of Rajnikanth, the muhurat was a low-key affair, confined to film personalities only. A galaxy of stars including Kamal Haasan, Jayaram and Radhika Sarath Kumar graced the occasion.

Asked about the project, Rajnikanth said, 'the shooting for the movie will begin early next week. It will hit the screen in April next year'.

P Vasu will direct Chandramukhi.

Besides producing Prabhu also plays a lead role alongside Rajnikanth in the movie. According to him, 'I am happy to produce and act along with Rajnikanth in the golden jubilee year of Sivaji Productions. Thanks to director P Vasu, the story has come out well. The film will be shot in Hyderabad, Mysore and a few other places nearby. Simran acts opposite me, while Malayalam actress Nayanathara is also in the cast. Nasser, Vadivel and Vijayakumar are also in the cast'. Vidyasagar would be scoring the music, while Sekar Joseph, who cranked the camera for blockbuster Telugu hits like Okkadu and Arjun would handle the cinematography.

P Vasu, who had worked with Rajnikanth in the films Uzhaipali and Mannan , said, 'it's a feel good film. It's a humorous film with no villains. With Rajnikanth, Prabhu and Vadivelu, who are known for their prowess in evoking laughter, Chandramukhi will be a real entertainer.

Aishwarya Rai is not acting in the project and chances are there that a Nayanthara would play opposite Rajnikanth in the movie'.

Among those who took part in the muhurrat were actors Sathyaraj, Nepolean, Jayaram, Vijayakumar, Vadivelu, Chinni Jayanath, Ravi, Sibiraj, actresses Manorama, Radhika, directors Raj Kapoor, K S Ravikumar, Santhana Bharathy, Sakthi Chidambaram and producers Muralitharan, Ibrahim Rowther, Pushpa Kandasamy and A M Ratnam.

Sivaji Ganesan's elder son Ramkumar and his actor-son Dushyanath were also present on the occasion.

Sources say, Chandramukhi would have Rajnikanth playing a professor.
