Say what you want, the bond between a brother and sister is one of the most played out tropes in Tamil cinema history. And not without good reason. Sibling relationships are always a source of love, affection, compassion and of course naughty fights too. So this Raksha Bandhan, we at Indiaglitz decided to recount some of the best movies that portrayed the best brother-sister combination!

Pasamalar: Sivaji Ganesan / Savitri

If you were to ask any Tamil cinema lover about a film that showcased brother-sister love, you will get an answer under a blink of an eye. 'Pasamalar'. Even uttering the word feels heavy with emotions and of course the stellar performances by Sivaji Ganesan and Savitri. The movie has become synonymous to the pure loving bond shared between a brother and sister in the Tamil cinema. What better day to catch this movie with your sibling?

Mullum Malarum: Rajini / Shoba

"Mullum Malarum" directed by Mahendran was a turning point for the superstar after having played a slew of supporting roles earlier. Often cited to be one of Rajini’s best performances in his career, the film catapulted him to new heights in his career. If you’re a Thalaivar fan and in some mood for a heart-warming brother-sister movie, now you’ve got one!

Samudhiram: Sarath Kumar / Kaveri

This is again an emotional entrant in the list. Directed by KS Ravikumar, the film deals with how Sarath Kumar and his two brothers struggle to give their sister a happy life. But everything goes opposed to the goal when Kaveri is not happy in her in-laws’ house. This movie had Sarathkumar giving one of his most adored performances and rides heavy on the emotions between three brothers and sister.

Thirupaachi: Vijay / Mallika

Directed by Perarasu, ‘Thirupaachi’ is one of the most loved movies of Thalapathy Vijay for his comic delivery, action and more importantly his love for his sister in the movie. Can you remember Vijay cutting Trisha’s locks off in order to appease his sister? No doubt it kinda makes every brother and sister out there envious!

Chokka Thangam: Vijayakanth / Uma

Directed and written by K Bhagyaraj, 'Chokka Thangam' casts Vijaykanth in the lead role as the brother of Uma. It’s endearing, heart-warming and not to mention brims with the tender affection that the brother and sister share in this emotionally moving movie. Vijayakanth playing the role of ‘Muthu’ elevated the movie’s appeal among the masses to a great level. It wouldn’t be surprising if today’s siblings too find this movie very relevant with respect to the bond between a brother and his sister.
