Rani Out, Priyanka In

Talks are that initially it was Rani Mukherjee who was approached to play the Olympics bronze medallist boxer Mary Kom in Omang Kumar’s biopic, being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

According to sources, before signing Priyanka Chopra the director had gone to Rani. Since the actress had been associated with Bhansali on couple of films (Black and Saawariya), the makers felt she would be good choice.

However, Rani had her own apprehensions. The actress, having worked earlier with few first-time directors, failed to make much impression at the box office. So with this view, Rani alleged to had requested Kumar to shoot few test scenes before she signed the project.

Taken aback with such condition, the director said to have felt annoyed and went on to opt for Priyanka instead.

Hmmmm, with the film gradually turning out to grab much attention, seems like Rani has missed a big-time offer...
