Ransomware hits operations at Jawaharlal Nehru port

A new strain of ransomeware is affecting multinational companies and operations at one of the three terminals of the Jawaharlal Nehru port have taken a blow.
The new ransomware has brought Russian and Ukrainian banks and state power grids as well as many multinational companies in Europe to their knees. Danish shipping giant AP Moller Maersk and Hague-based APM Terminals, which operate the Gateway Terminal India (GTI) and the Pipavav terminal in Gujarat, respectively, confirmed being crippled by the ransomware. While APM Terminals has not commented on the impact on India, officials said that work at GTI, which can handle 1.8 million standard container units, is at a literal standstill. Although operations are being conducted manually, very little work can actually be done manually, a senior official said.
This ransomware is expected to have a smaller impact last month's WannaCry', as Microsoft has patched a flaw that allowed the virus to spread easily.
