'Ra.One' copyright row; court asks SRK to pay 1 crore before release

The judges from the Bombay High Court had pointed out 'a copyright violation' on prima facie and have instructed Shah Rukh Khan to deposit a sum of Rs 1 crore before 'Ra.One' film hits the big screen.

Shah Rukh Khan production company Red Chillies and distributor Eros has to deposit the money by Saturday, failing so will result into an injunction against the film's release. The judges hearing the copyright infringement of SRK most ambitious 'Ra.One', gave this judgment yesterday.

A day before film and television producer Yash Patnaik moved the court alleging that the concept of 'Ra.One' was stolen from a story developed by him in 2006. Patnaik in his petition further charged that the makers of 'Ra.One' had even copied the sartorial style of the hero and villain from his original concept.

Patnaik, seeking a stay on the film release, pleaded to the court that either the producer share with him ten per cent of profits or give him the credit. The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and justice Roshan Dalvi, after hearing the petition remarked, It is sad to see that people use others’ concepts and then don’t want to pay or even give them credit.

The court gave its judgment on the basis of evidence given by the petitioner that he had registered the concept with the Film Writers Association in 2006 and also discussed it with the film’s script writer Mushtaq Sheikh.

On being asked why he was silent since the posters of the film was out in public from Jan 2011, Patnaik said that only when he saw the name of Mushtaq Sheikh in the writer's credit he was convinced that it was his concept.

He further added that when he saw the trailer of SRK standing on a hire rise with water at the backdrop overlooking the city he realized that it's exactly the same description in the end of his concept. Patnaik claims that the name of the villain in his concept is 'One'.

We hope the makers deposit the money and 'Ra.One' sees a Diwali release, failing will disappoint many fans around the world.
